Gippsland Athletics club was founded in 1955. Our aim is to promote, encourage and improve athletic competition in the Gippsland Region. We offer a relaxed and friendly environment for individuals and families and encourage participation from all ages and abilities. Athletes compete in age groups from U14 up to Masters. Regular track and field competition is held from October to March on Tuesday evenings starting at 6.00pm at the Joe Carmody Athletics Track in Newborough.
2024-25 TRACK SEASON - will start up again on Tuesday night's in early October.
The summer track season will continue most Tuesdays (6pm) from early October to late February.
We cater for athletes from 11 years of age up to masters athletes of any age, with age groups from U/14 to Masters (40+).
We are a small but friendly club and welcome and encourage people of all abilities to come and give athletics a try.
First time athletes are welcome for a two week trial, while returning athletes should be registered with Athletics Victoria prior to competing.

Joining and fees
The AV portal is 'live' for the 2024/25 season (April 1 - March 31).
Fees for the 2024/25 season have been released by Athletics Victoria and more information can be found on "Join" page for cost details and links to completing your registration.
The Victorian Country championships for 2024 are done and dusted. Thankfully the Ballarat weather was kind to the athletes, not too hot or cold!
The club was represented by a small team consisting of Zaria Dalton (U/16 Women), Jack Doderico (Open Men), Stuart Dalton (40+ Men) and Simon Van Baalen (Open and 50+ Men).
Zaria had 2 great runs in the 100m (4th) and 200m (5th). This is her first countries in U/16 age group, so 2025 is looking promising for her after another 12 months of racing experience and development.
Jack is getting back into racing and aiming to get back into peak form. He had good runs in the 400m and 800m and achieved the target times he set for himself.
Stuart had a solid weekend, with an excellent Bronze medal and comp pb in the 40+ discus. He followed this up with a 5th place in the 40+ hammer, just out of the placings.
Simon Van Baalen had a very successful championships. Winning 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals from his 8 events.
The highlights being the 2 golds in 50+ Hammer and Discus, with 2 comp pb's and breaking the 2 championship records.
The Victorian Country Championship is a great, fun event each year and the small team represented our club with pride.

The annual Vern Curnow Pentathlon was held on Tuesday 12th of December 2023.
We were fortunate to be joined by a group of athletes from South Coast Athletics to ensure that there was competition for the perpetual trophy.
A great night was had by all and Gippsland Athletics would like to thank the athletes for their help with events on the night.

Womens Masters Pentathlon – Laura Tomic 1304 (929 previous record, Janine Wynen SCA 27/02/2018)
Womens U/14 200m – Zaria Dalton 27.06 (27.08 previous record, Angela Byrne SCA 23/11/2004)
